I am raising funds to pay for my commission from Janice Misurell-Mitchell, and to be able to give the new piece really great performances. She is writing a very cool piece for flute and percussion called “The Art of Noise.” I have already made a down payment but I need to pay her the balance of $2500 when she finishes the piece and gives me the score. This piece will be premiered in San Francisco in 2012, and hopefully performed in Chicago as well. Producing these performances costs a lot of money.
Many thanks to those of you who have helped me raise money to pay for my commission from Daniel Felsenfeld, and thank you to those who have supported me by buying my new album. I am asking you again for your help because it takes a lot of will, time, and money to create new art. It is cheaper and easier to play more Mozart or Poulenc, but the compositions by Janice Misurell-Mitchell are SO COOL — more of them need to be created. (You have seen my video for Sometimes the City is Silent, right? That’s a piece written by Janice!)
Please make a tax-deductible donation via San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music and make this new piece come to life.
Meerenai Shim is an affiliate of, and fiscally-sponsored by, the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the service of chamber music in California.
P.S. Asking for tax-deductible donations from individuals is just one part of my fundraising activities to pay for this project. I am applying for grants as well. I am saving money from my private flute teaching and the small amount of money I get from performances and CD sales. I’m doing everything I can (legally!) to give these commissioned pieces their best performances. Your money will be well spent. THANK YOU!!
